What's Happening

In the morning, the First Family will arrive in Washington, DC. The arrival on the South Lawn is open press.

Later, the President and the Vice President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office.  The President will then meet with senior advisors.  These meetings are closed press.

In the afternoon, the President and the Vice President will meet for lunch in the Private Dining Room. This lunch is closed press.

Later, the President and the Vice President will meet with Secretary of Defense Panetta in the Oval Office.  This meeting is closed press.

In the evening, the President will participate in a video teleconference with Iowa Caucus attendees. There will be pool coverage of this event. 

In the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office.  This meeting is closed press.

In the afternoon, the President will continue to urge House Republicans to do what’s right for the American people by allowing a vote on the short term bipartisan compromise passed by almost the entire Senate.  If Congress fails to extend the payroll tax cut, the typical family making $50,000 a year will have about $40 less to spend or save with each paycheck.  As a part of the President’s push to get Congress to act, the White House has launched an effort to have average Americans make their voices heard in this debate by asking them to share what $40 a paycheck means to them on obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/40dollarsand on Twitter at #40dollars.  The President will discuss what’s at stake for the American people, and will be joined by Americans who would see their taxes go up if the House Republicans fail to act, including some of those Americans who have responded to this call to illustrate what $40 means to them. The President’s arrival and departure from South Lawn are open press and the ceremony is pooled press.
