What's Happening

In the morning, the President and the Vice President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press. In the afternoon, the President and the Vice President will meet for lunch in the Private Dining Room. This lunch is closed press. Later, the President will conduct interviews with four local television anchors at the White House about how the government shutdown has affected their communities and how an economic shutdown would be even worse. The interviews are embargoed until 5:00pm EDT. The list of media markets will be released in the afternoon. Later in the afternoon, the President will announce his intent to nominate Dr. Janet Yellen as Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.  The announcement in the State Dining Room is pooled press. Later, the President and the Vice President will meet with the House Democratic Caucus in the East Room.  The meeting is closed press.

In the morning, the President will visit M. Luis Construction, a local construction company to discuss the need for Congress to act to pass a budget and pay the bills it has racked up.  M. Luis Construction is a local small business that has grown in recent years thanks to increased access to capital through the President’s Small Business Jobs Act and other SBA programs.  The President will highlight the impacts that a shutdown and default would have on our economy and our nation’s small businesses.  There will be in-town travel pool coverage for this event.

Later in the morning, the President will hold a bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The President looks forward to discussing with Prime Minister Netanyahu the progress on final status negotiations with the Palestinians, as well as developments in Iran, Syria, and elsewhere in the region.  Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit is a demonstration of the deep and enduring bonds between the United States and Israel, and our close coordination on a range of security issues. The Vice President will also attend. There will be a pool spray at the bottom of the bilateral meeting in the Oval Office.

In the afternoon, the President will hold a working lunch with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The Vice President will also attend. This working lunch in the Private Dining Room is closed press. 

In the afternoon, the President will deliver a statement in the Brady Press Briefing Room. The President’s statement is open press.

Later in the afternoon, the President will hold a Cabinet Meeting in the Cabinet Room. The Vice President will also attend. There will be a pool spray at the top of the meeting.
