The President will discuss the importance of taking measures to grow the economy, encouraging the businesses and investors from around the world in attendance to bring new investment and jobs to the U.S.

In the afternoon, the President will travel to Boston where he will deliver remarks on the importance of providing all Americans with quality, affordable health insurance and the experience in Massachusetts, which passed its bipartisan health care law in 2006.  The departure from the White House is in-town pool coverage and the arrival at Logan International Airport is open press.

The meeting will highlight the strength of the U.S.-Italy relationship, among the strongest bonds tying together the United States and Europe. At 8:00 AM, the Vice President will meet for breakfast with participants in the U.S.-China Track II Strategic Dialogue chaired by former Secretary Henry Kissinger and former State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan at the Hay Adams Hotel.  This meeting is closed press. Later in the morning, the President and the Vice President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press. Later, the President will conduct interviews with three local television anchors at the White House about how the government shutdown has affected their communities and how an economic shutdown would be even worse.  The interviews are embargoed until 5:00pm EDT.

In the afternoon, the President will award William Swenson, a former active duty Army Captain, the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry.  Captain Swenson will receive the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions while serving as an Embedded Trainer and Mentor of the Afghan National Security Forces with Afghan Border Police Mentor Team, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, during combat operations in Kunar Province, Afghanistan on September 8, 2009. The Vice President and First Lady will also attend. The President’s remarks in the East Room are open press.
