Improving Nursing Home Safety

To improve safety for Americans receiving care in nursing homes, the Act creates incentives to correct deficiencies and improves independent monitoring.

It establishes a demonstration project to test and implement a national independent monitoring program to oversee inter-State and large intra-State nursing home chains. And to make sure that families and residents have the chance to prepare and plan, the administrator of a facility preparing to close must provide written notice to residents, legal representatives of residents and the State in advance of closing the facility.
