The Schedule

In the morning, the President will be interviewed live on NBC Today Show in the Green Room. The interview will kick off a three-day summit hosted by NBC called “Education Nation” focusing on the state of education in America.

Later in the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing and will then meet with senior advisors in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press.

In the afternoon, the President will host an on-the-record conference call with college and university student-journalists to discuss the steps his Administration has taken to address the concerns and issues important to young Americans. This conference call is open to invited media.

Later in the afternoon, the President will sign the Small Business Jobs Act in the East Room. The bill signing is open press.

Later in the afternoon, the President will award Chief Master Sergeant Richard L. Etchberger, U.S. Air Force, the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry. Chief Etchberger will receive the Medal of Honor posthumously for his heroic actions in combat on March 11, 1968, in the country of Laos.  He displayed immeasurable courage and uncommon valor -- deliberately exposing himself to enemy fire in order to place his three surviving wounded comrades in the rescue slings permitting them to be airlifted to safety. As he was finally being rescued, he was fatally wounded by enemy ground fire.  Chief Etchberger’s sons, Richard Etchberger, Cory Etchberger and Steve Wilson will join the President at the White House to commemorate their father’s example of selfless service and sacrifice. The Vice President will also attend. This event is open press.

The Schedule

In the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing and will then meet with senior advisors in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press. Later in the morning, the President and the Vice President will meet with General Ray Odierno in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press. In the afternoon, the President will hold a Cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room. There will be a pool spray at the top of the meeting. Later, the President will meet with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Representative George Miller in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press. In the evening, the President will deliver remarks at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s 33rd Annual Awards Gala at the Washington Convention Center. The First Lady will also attend. The President’s remarks are open to pre-credentialed media.
