In the afternoon, the President and Vice President will have lunch at the White House with the Democratic and Republican leaders in both houses of Congress to discuss ongoing efforts to find common ground on legislative priorities that will create jobs and strengthen America’s economy. In the evening, the President and First Lady will host a dinner at the White House to honor our Armed Forces who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn and to honor their families.  This dinner—an expression of the nation's gratitude for the achievements and enormous sacrifices of the brave Americans who served in the Iraq War and of the families who supported them—will include men and women in uniform from all ranks, services, states and backgrounds, representative of the many thousands of Americans who served in Iraq. The Vice President and Dr. Biden will also attend. In the afternoon, the President will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt of Denmark in the Oval Office. Denmark and the United States are close NATO allies and the President looks forward to thanking the Prime Minister for Denmark’s important contribution to the NATO mission in Libya and for its continuing commitment to the ISAF operation in Afghanistan.  The two leaders will discuss preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in Chicago, including proposals for supporting the transition in Afghanistan, increasing Alliance defense capabilities, and advancing NATO’s relationships with key partners.  With Denmark currently holding the European Union presidency, the President and Prime Minister will talk about the recent European summit and the latest steps that Europe is taking to address its sovereign debt crisis.  The President and the Prime Minister will also discuss common efforts on counterterrorism, counterpiracy, green growth, economic development, Arctic cooperation and support for the democratic transitions in North Africa and the Middle East. There will be a pool spray at the bottom of this meeting.

Also on Friday, following meetings with the President and other key Administration officials, members of the Democratic Governors’ Association will be available at the White House stakeout location at 12:20PM.  Reporters who do not have a White House hard pass should email their full name, date of birth, country of origin, Social Security Number and city of residence to media_affairs@who.eop.gov.

While in Miami, the President will travel to the University of Miami where he will tour the school’s Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) where students learn how to become industrial energy-efficiency experts as they help small- to mid-sized manufacturers reduce their energy costs.   University of Miami’s IAC is one of 24 nationwide and is part of the Department of Energy’s Industrial Assessment Program.  Following the tour, the President will deliver remarks discussing his blueprint for an economy built to last.  There will be travel pool coverage of the tour, and the President’s remarks to University of Miami students and faculty members are open to pre-credentialed members of the media.

Later, the President will host an event at the White House to discuss the importance of the agreement passed by Congress to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance and to urge Congress to build on the success of the agreement by taking additional steps to create jobs, grow the economy and help the middle class.The President will be joined by Americans who have shared their stories on WhiteHouse.gov and Twitter about what $40 a paycheck means to them.  Because of this bipartisan action, the typical American family will still see an extra $40 in every paycheck, keeping nearly $1,000 of their hard-earned money this year.  Additionally, millions of Americans who are looking for work will still be able to depend on the vital lifeline of unemployment insurance.  The President will sign the bill into law when it reaches his desk later in the week. The Vice President will also attend this event in the South Court Auditorium. The event is open press.
