The Schedule

In the morning, the President and the First Lady officially will welcome President Hollande of France to the White House. The Vice President will also attend the arrival ceremony on the South Lawn, which is open to pre-credentialed press.  The deadline to request media credentials has passed.

Later in the morning, the President will hold a bilateral meeting with President Hollande in the Oval Office. There will be a pool spray at the top of the meeting.  The President will then hold an expanded bilateral meeting with President Hollande and the Official U.S. and Official French Delegations in the Cabinet Room. The Vice President will also attend.  This meeting is closed press.

In the afternoon, the President will hold a joint press conference with President Hollande in the East Room.  The press conference is open to pre-credentialed press; however, the deadline to request media credentials has passed. Following the joint press conference, the President will meet with Secretary of Defense Hagel. The President will then meet with senior advisors. These meetings in the Oval Office are closed press. 

In the evening, the President and the First Lady will welcome President Hollande at the North Portico.  This arrival is pooled for TV and correspondents and open to pre-credentialed still photographers.  The deadline to request media credentials has passed.  The President and the First Lady will then take the official photo with President Hollande of France on the Grand Staircase. This is pooled press.

Later, the President and the First Lady will host a State Dinner in honor of President Hollande on the South Lawn. The Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden will also attend.  The President and President Hollande will each give a toast. The toast remarks during the dinner are pooled press.  Following the dinner, the President and the First Lady will attend the State Dinner reception with President Hollande on the South Lawn.  There will be pooled press coverage of this event.

Later in the afternoon, as part of the State Visit of President François Hollande to the United States, President Obama and President Hollande will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia. There will be in-town travel pool coverage of the departure from the West Slope of the Washington Monument, and the arrival at Charlottesville Albemarle Airport is open to pre-credentialed media.

As the residence of Thomas Jefferson, one of the United States’ earliest envoys to France, Monticello reflects Jefferson’s affection for the people of France, the long-standing relations between our two democracies, and the shared values we hold dear:  life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
