The Schedule

In the morning, the President will welcome President Truong Tan Sang of Vietnam to the White House.  The President welcomes the opportunity to discuss with President Sang how to further strengthen our partnership on regional strategic issues and enhance our cooperation with ASEAN.  The President also looks forward to discussing human rights, emerging challenges such as climate change, and the importance of completing a high standard Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. There will be a pool spray at the bottom of the meeting.

Later in the morning, the President will travel to Jacksonville, Florida. The departure from the South Lawn and the arrival at the Jacksonville International Airport are open press.

While in Jacksonville, the President will tour and deliver remarks at the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), where he will lay out his vision for rebuilding an economy that puts the middle class and those fighting to join it front and center.  The President’s remarks will continue a series of important speeches on the economy starting at Knox College in Galesburg, IL, and the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO.  The President’s tour of the Jacksonville Port Authority will be covered by the travel pool and his remarks will be open press.

In the evening, the President will depart Jacksonville, Florida en route Washington, DC. The departure from Jacksonville International Airport and the arrival on the South Lawn are open press.

Later in the evening, the President will host an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan in the State Dining Room. There will be pooled press coverage of the President’s remarks.

In the morning, the Vice President will meet with women teaching and working at the India Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in Mumbai. The Vice President will also tour IIT's research and education facilities to learn about innovative programs and research in the areas of nanotechnology and earth sciences such as geochemistry and geochronology. Portions of this visit will be pooled press.

Afterwards, the Vice President and Dr. Biden will depart Mumbai, India, en route Singapore.

 Dr. Jill Biden:

At 9:45 AM LOCAL TIME/12:15 AM ET, Dr. Biden will visit the Anjuman-i-Islam’s Saif Tyabji Girls School, an all-girls Muslim school founded in 1938 that serves 5,500 students in grades K–12. Dr. Biden will meet with high school age students in an English class and then speak to students about the importance of education and the opportunities their education will provide. The Vice President will be in Mumbai, India. At 1:00 PM LOCAL TIME/3:30 AM ET, the Vice President will deliver remarks on the U.S.-India partnership at the Bombay Stock Exchange. In the afternoon, the Vice President will meet with Indian business, trade, and investment leaders at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel. The Vice President’s remarks at the bottom of this meeting are pooled press.

Later, the Vice President and Dr. Biden will meet with U.S. Consulate staff and families in Mumbai. This event is closed press.

Dr. Jill Biden:

At 12:00 PM LOCAL TIME/2:30 AM ET, Dr. Biden will visit the Mumbai office of UNICEF for a round table discussion on the National Call to Action for Child Survival and Development, a joint initiative of the United States, India, and Ethiopia to accelerate child survival efforts and end preventable child deaths. The participants will include a senior government official from the flagship child survival program, child health experts, social entrepreneurs, and representatives from donor agencies, civil society and private sector. This event is open to pre-credentialed media.

At 2:30 PM LOCAL TIME/5:00 AM ET, Dr. Biden will visit the DILAASA Crisis Intervention Center at K.B. Bhabha Municipal Hospital. DILAASA is India’s first hospital based anti-Gender Based Violence (GBV) center. The program uses one-stop-crisis-centers best practices from the U.S. and U.K. to serve the victims of GBV in a public hospital. Dr. Biden will tour the facility and meet with the hospital officials, representatives from the local and regional government, and CEHAT (the NGO partner of DILAASA). In the afternoon, the President will welcome the Louisville Cardinals Men’s Basketball Team to the White House to celebrate their 2013 NCAA championship.  This event in the East Room is open press.

The Vice President will be in New Delhi, India. At 10:00 AM LOCAL TIME/12:30 AM ET, the Vice President will meet with Vice President Hamid Ansari at Hyderabad House.
