In the morning, the President and the Vice President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing. The President will then meet with senior advisors. These meetings in the Oval Office are closed press.

At 11:30 AM, the Vice President will host an event to launch a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) at the White House. The Vice President will be joined by Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, White House Advisor on Violence Against Women Lynn Rosenthal, Jimmy Rollins of the Philadelphia Phillies, David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays and Andy Katz of ESPN to release the PSA that will air on various television networks and online platforms this summer. The PSA features the President, the Vice President, professional athletes and role models who deliver the message that dating violence is unacceptable. At 1:30 PM, the Vice President will chair a regular meeting of senior officials to assess progress in Iraq. 

In the afternoon, the President will sign S. 3261, Contract Awards for Large Air Tankers. The bill will support our nation's ability to fight wildfires by enabling the Forest Service to accelerate the contracting of the next generation of air tankers for wildfire suppression. The importance of this bill is underscored by ongoing efforts by the federal government to support state and local partners currently battling fires in a number of Western states. To help fight these damaging fires, federal agencies have made approximately 5,000 firefighters available to aid in efforts to suppress and contain the fires and the Forest Service has 16 large air tankers and one very large air tanker available immediately for wildfire suppression. The bill will allow the Forest Service to leverage the new air tankers in future wildfire responses, bolstering resources they rely on today. There will be a stills only pool spray of the bill signing.

In the afternoon, the President and the Vice President will hold a bilateral meeting with President Shimon Peres of Israel. This meeting in the Oval Office is closed press.

In the evening, the President will award Shimon Peres the Presidential Medal of Freedom at a dinner at the White House in the East Room.  The First Lady, the Vice President, Secretary Clinton, and former President Clinton, will also attend.  An ardent advocate for Israel's security and for peace, Shimon Peres was elected the ninth President of Israel in 2007.  Through his life and work, he has strengthened the unbreakable bonds between Israel and the United States. During the dinner, the President and President Peres will each give a toast. The presentation of the Medal of Freedom and the toast remarks, as well as the entertainment, are pooled press.

In the morning, the President will deliver a statement in the Brady Press Briefing Room. The President will deliver a statement on the economy, calling on Congress to pass the bipartisan, paid-for ideas that the President proposed last year to put construction workers back to work upgrading our roads and bridges, teachers back in the classroom educating our kids and police and firefighters back on the job keeping our communities safe.  He will address the state of the economy, including the situation in Europe, which continues to pose headwinds to our recovery here at home. The President’s remarks will be open press.

In the afternoon, the President and the Vice President will meet for lunch in the Private Dining Room. This lunch is closed press.

Later in the afternoon, the President will welcome President Benigno Aquino of the Philippines to the White House for a bilateral meeting. The Philippines is a long-standing friend and ally of the United States, and the President looks forward to discussing with President Aquino the close strategic, economic and people-to-people ties between our two countries, and our cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. The two leaders will also discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation. There will be a pool spray at the bottom of the bilateral meeting.

Next, the President will welcome the four-time Super Bowl Champion New York Giants to the White House to honor the team for their Super Bowl XLVI victory.  Continuing his tradition of recognizing sports teams for their work off the field, President Obama will highlight the Giants’ ongoing support to the men and women who serve in the military and their families.
