The Schedule

In the morning, the President will visit a school in Newport, Wales with British Prime Minister David Cameron to meet with students. There will be travel pool coverage of this event.

Later in the morning, the President will join a meeting with Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Ukraine to discuss the situation in Ukraine. There will be a pool spray at the top of this meeting.

In the afternoon, the President will be greeted by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Prime Minister Cameron at the start of the NATO Summit. Afterward, the President will take an official family photo with leaders attending the NATO Summit. There will be NATO pre-set pool coverage of these events.

Later in the afternoon, the President will join NATO leaders for the first session on Afghanistan and then proceed to a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission. There will be NATO pool sprays at the top of these meetings.

In the evening, the President will travel to Cardiff Castle and take an official family photo with leaders attending the NATO Summit. The arrival and the official family photo will be NATO pool coverage. Afterward, the President will join a leaders’ working dinner on security challenges. This dinner is closed press.

In the afternoon, the President will visit the Bank of Estonia to hold a joint press conference with President Ilves. The press conference is open to pre-credentialed media. Following the press conference, the President will visit the Stenbock House, where he will be greeted by Prime Minister Roivas of Estonia. There will be pooled coverage of the President’s arrival. While at the Stenbock House, the President will meet with Prime Minister Roivas to discuss bilateral ties, strategic and regional cooperation, and our shared commitment to the trans-Atlantic partnership. Later in the afternoon, the President will visit the Kadriorg Art Museum to meet with the three Baltic presidents -- President Ilves, President Berzins of Latvia, and President Grybauskaite of Lithuania -- to discuss ongoing cooperation on regional security, policies that support economic growth, and collective defense. This meeting is closed press. Following their meeting, the President and the three Baltic leaders will deliver statements to the press. There will be travel pool coverage of their statements.

In the evening, the President will deliver remarks at the Nordea Concert Hall to students, young professionals, and civil society leaders. The President’s remarks are open to pre-credentialed media. Following his speech, the President and Prime Minister Roivas will receive a briefing on NATO Reassurance and deliver remarks to U.S. and Estonian troops at the Tallinn Airport Hangar. There will be expanded pool coverage of the briefing and remarks.

Long-Term Unemployment Is Falling, but Still Work to Do

The unemployment rate has fallen rapidly since mid-2013 to reach 6.2 percent in July, 1.1 percentage point less than a year ago. Much of the decline in the unemployment rate has come as a result of declines in long-term unemployment; in fact, falling long-term unemployment accounts for more than 60 percent of the drop in the overall unemployment rate in the last 12 months.

The Schedule

In the morning, the President will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina. The President’s departure from the South Lawn will be open press and the arrival at the North Carolina Air National Guard Base is open to pre-credentialed media.

In the afternoon the President will deliver remarks at the American Legion’s 96th National Convention. This event at the Charlotte Convention Center is open to pre-credentialed media.

Following his remarks, the President will depart Charlotte en route Washington, DC. The departure from the North Carolina Air National Guard Base is open to pre-credentialed media, and the arrival on the South Lawn is open press.

Later in the afternoon, the President and Vice President meet with Secretary of State Kerry in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press.

In the morning, the Vice President will attend meetings at the White House.

At 12:30 PM, the Vice President will attend an event for the Anthony Brown for Governor campaign at The Powerhouse. This event is closed press.

In the afternoon, the Vice President will attend the President’s meeting with Secretary of State Kerry in the Oval Office.

Later in the afternoon, the Vice President will attend meetings at the White House.

The Schedule

The President will remain at Martha’s Vineyard through Sunday, August 24.

In the morning, Vice President Biden will travel to East Hartford, Connecticut.

At 12:30 PM, Vice President Biden will visit Goodwin College for a roundtable discussion on workforce development and skills training. During the roundtable, the Vice President will highlight the school’s Certified Production Technician program, a collaboration between small and large employers and local industry partners. Governor Dannel P. Malloy will also attend this event. Remarks at the top of this event will be pooled press.

Afterwards, the Vice President will travel to Greenwich, Connecticut. At 4:00 PM, the Vice President will attend an event at a private residence for the Democratic Governors Association.

At 5:30 PM, the Vice President will attend an event for the Democratic Party of Connecticut at a private residence in Stamford, Connecticut.

In the evening, the Vice President will return to Washington, DC.
