The Schedule

In the morning, the President will participate in a town hall at the Summit of the Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. The three-day Summit will cap off the Washington Fellowship, the flagship program of the President’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), and give 500 of sub-Saharan Africa’s most prominent young leaders the opportunity to engage with U.S. government officials, entrepreneurs and civil society representatives as well as leaders in international development. This event at the Omni Shoreham Hotel is open to pre-credentialed media.
 
In the afternoon, the President will award the 2013 National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal at the White House. The First Lady will also attend. In the afternoon, the President will meet with President Otto Perez Molina of Guatemala, President Juan Orlando Hernandez of Honduras, and President Salvador Sanchez Ceren of El Salvador. The Vice President will also attend. The four leaders and Vice President Biden will discuss how to reinforce our ongoing collaboration to stem the flow of undocumented migrants from Central America to Mexico and the United States.  This will include discussion of how the United States and Central American governments are cooperating to promote safe, legal, and orderly migration between our countries in a spirit of shared responsibility, including with respect to the return of family units, which began last week for all three countries.  There will be a pool spray of this meeting in the Cabinet Room at the bottom.

Pitts, a former active duty Army Staff Sergeant, the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry.  Staff Sergeant Pitts will receive the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions while serving as a Forward Observer with 2nd Platoon, Chosen Company, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, during combat operations at Vehicle Patrol Base Kahler, in the vicinity of Wanat Village in Kunar Province, Afghanistan on July 13, 2008. Staff Sergeant Pitts will be the ninth living recipient to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan. This event in the East Room is open to pre-credentialed media.
