In the evening, the President and the First Lady will host music legends and contemporary major artists in the East Room for “The Motown Sound: In Performance at the White House,” a concert celebrating Black History Month and the legacy of Motown Records. Earlier in the day, the First Lady will welcome more than 100 students from California, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Washington, D.C. to take part in an interactive student workshop event: “The Sound of Young America: The History of Motown.” The GRAMMY Museum’s Executive Director Bob Santelli will lead the students in a discussion about the history of Motown’s long-lasting legacy, ranging from its beginnings in the city of Detroit to its effect on the music industry. Featured performers from the evening event will share their experiences as well as answer student questions about the music and entertainment world.

In Cleveland, the President will convene a Winning the Future Forum on Small Business in association with Cleveland State University and northeast Ohio economic development organizations JumpStart and NorTech. In his State of the Union address, President Obama spoke of the need to out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build our competitors in order to sustain our leadership and secure prosperity for all Americans.  The Forum will be an opportunity for the President and his economic team to hear directly from small business owners and leaders about their ideas for how we can continue to grow the economy, put Americans back to work, and win the future. Cabinet members attending the event include Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Energy Secretary Steven Chu, SBA Administrator Karen Mills and CEA Chair Austan Goolsbee.  NEC Director Gene Sperling will also attend.

The President will deliver opening remarks at the Winning the Future Forum on Small Business at Cleveland State University. The President’s remarks are open press.

The Winning the Future Forum on Small Business will include breakout sessions, including sessions on entrepreneurship, access to capital, workforce development, exports and clean energy. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will also be in attendance.
