In the morning, the President will honor the 2012 National Teacher of the Year and finalists at the White House, thanking them for their hard work and dedication each and every day in the classroom. This event in the East Room is open press.
Later in the morning, the President will depart from the White House en route Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The departure from the South Lawn and arrival at Raleigh-Durham International Airport are open press.
In North Carolina, the President will deliver remarks at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he will continue to call on Congress to stop interest rates on student loans from doubling in July. In North Carolina, approximately 160,000 students will rack up nearly $1,000 in additional debt unless Congress acts. The President’s remarks are open to pre-credentialed media.
Later, the President will sit down for an interview for “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. NBC will release excerpts of the interview later in the afternoon. Other than the excerpts, the interview will be embargoed until airing on Tuesday night. There will be a stills only photo spray of the interview.
In the afternoon, the President will depart from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, en route Boulder, Colorado. The departure from Raleigh-Durham International Airport and arrival at Buckley Air Force Base are open press.
In Colorado, the President will deliver remarks at the University of Colorado at Boulder to discuss the need for Congress to act to prevent 7.4 million students with federal student loans, 167,000 students in Colorado specifically, from seeing their interest rates double on July 1. Tomorrow morning, the Vice President will host an event highlighting the critical need to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. The Vice President will be joined by Attorney General Eric Holder, Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, White House Advisor on Violence Against Women Lynn Rosenthal and Sharon Love, mother of Yeardley Love and founder of the One Love Foundation. At the event, the Vice President and others will discuss the Administration’s ongoing coordination across the federal government to combat violence against women and announce new steps the Administration is taking to reduce domestic violence and sexual assault. At 11:00 AM, domestic violence awareness advocate and Emmy Award-winning journalist Paula Zahn will host a panel discussion with community leaders and advocates to highlight the successes of the Violence Against Women Act and what more needs to be done.
