The Schedule

In the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing and meet with senior advisors in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press. Later in the morning, the President will hold an event to call on Congress to move forward in a bipartisan way to pass a clean extension of the Surface Transportation Bill, which expires at the end of September, and a clean extension of the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization, which expires in mid-September. The President will be joined by Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, AFL-CIO President and member of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness Richard Trumka, U.S. Chamber of Commerce COO David Chavern, and workers who would be affected if Congress fails to act. The President will discuss the importance of moving forward with this extension to protect nearly a million American jobs and highlight the opportunity we have to work in a bipartisan way to further invest in rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure to strengthen our economy and create new jobs across the country. This event in the Rose Garden is open press. Later in the morning, the President will deliver remarks at the American Legion Annual Conference at the Minneapolis Convention Center to thank our veterans for their service in our nations wars and, as we approach the 10th anniversary of 9/11, he will pay special tribute to the 9/11 Generation of troops and their families who have borne the burden of a hard decade of war. He will discuss how responsibly ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan must include meeting our obligations to take care of our troops and veterans as they come home, and will review the Administration's efforts in meeting our obligations to all veterans. The Vice President will be in Chengdu, China,  Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and Tokyo, Japan.

In the morning, the Vice President will depart Chengdu, China en route Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  The arrival is OPEN PRESS at 11:45 AM LOCAL TIME/ 11:45 PM ET.

In Ulaanbaatar, Vice President Biden will meet with Prime Minister Sukhbaatar Batbold. There will be a pool spray at the top of the meeting and pooled statements after the meeting.

In the morning, the President and members of the White House Rural Council will host the White House Rural Economic Forum at Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta, Iowa. The Forum will bring together farmers, small business owners, private sector leaders, rural organizations, and government officials to discuss ideas and initiatives to promote economic growth, accelerate hiring, and spur innovation in rural communities and small towns across the nation. The President will engage directly with a variety of rural leaders from across the nation to discuss the importance of growing small businesses and strengthening the middle class in rural America. The President’s opening remarks at the forum will be open press. Following the opening remarks, the President will participate in a breakout session hosted by Small Business Administrator Karen Mills on growing rural small business. There will be a travel pool spray at the top of the session. Later, the President will participate in a breakout session hosted by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on promoting agricultural innovation and renewable energy jobs in rural communities. Also at the Rural Economic Forum, the President will conduct local interviews with KSDK Saint Louis, Missouri and WDAF Kansas City, Missouri to discuss ways to grow the economy, strengthen the middle class and accelerate hiring in communities, large and small, across the nation.
